UNESCO recognition sought for historic Wat Pho inscriptions
Wat Pho inscriptions contain Buddhist teachings, literary works, and Thai wisdom, especially concerning traditional medicine, which can also be seen from hermit statues showing postures for muscle pain treatment. Thailand deems it appropriate to propose the inscriptions to UNESCO Memory of the World

This is possibly the most interesting temple in Thailand as it combines history, medical science and is a center for meditation and traditional massage training. Its official name is Wat Phrachetuphon Vimon Mangkararam Ratchaworamahawihan, although it is commonly called Wat Po.

In more modern times, Wat Pho has gained international recognition as a meditation centre and for the traditional Thai massage that is both practiced and taught here.

The walls have marble tablets describing basic anatomy and treatments.
The inscriptions, engraved on sheets of gold, silver and marble, compile wisdom, ranging from Buddhist precepts and literary works, to treatises on traditional medicine, as well as being a demonstrating record of postures used by hermits. They are believed to have medical benefits for treating muscle and joint pain.

.Positions of Contorted Hermit

Originally there are 127 positions of contorted hermit. At present, many institutes; Institute of Thai Traditional Medicine and Wat Phra Chetuphon School of Traditional Medicine have developed them for an exercise in different forms and styles.

            “Contortion” means to make any part of body bend as needed in various forms such as stretching, shrinking, bending and twisting. Each position can be less or more flexible as practice.

            Contorted hermit demonstrates relaxing positions of your body to relieve pains and stress. Those positions have been adapted from those of a hermit who concentrates on his hard practice on good merit for several hours a day.

            Contortion is an exercise or acrobatic to make your body and mind in good health. The by products of contortion is to heal sickness such as systematic disease and muscle pains.

it was mentioned only 80 positions. At present, of hermits in various yoga postures were placed in Wat Po's hermit garden to make these teachings available to all Thai-style exercising (Rue See Dad Ton) was used to adjust anatomy by oneself easily
